“With a gentle demeanor, I respond to this chaotic world, moving slowly and steadfastly." ── Li Feiwen.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, the anticipated respite for the world was overshadowed by the discovery that the time spent confined at home was surprisingly the most tranquil. Society struggled to find its footing, facing successive crises such as the Russo-Ukrainian War, inflation, global food shortages, extreme weather, and the recent earthquake in Ishikawa, Japan. The unknown future induces fear and anxiety, rapidly engulfing the world.
Pregnancy is often regarded as the most sensitive period for women, as within their bodies, a new life is being nurtured. Ever since she assumed the role of a "mother," Li Feiwen has transcended into another level of being, exhibiting in her work a resilience and composure previously unseen. Facing the accelerated pacing of everyday life, she adopts a stable and elegant stance
The exhibition "Gently . Tenderly" in 2024 reflects Li Feiwen's convictions and the emotions she attempts to evoke through her art. Transitioning identities and perceiving the world differently, she transforms accumulated internal perceptions into a spiritual creation, a vital world constructed purely from perception and affect. Through painting various elements of nature, she amplifies her feelings, capturing each fleeting moment. This approach allows her to contemplate the world, feel everything deeply, and seek the true essence of art beyond surface perceptions.
The flowing lines, mist-like textures, precise brushstrokes, and translucent color blocks in her work intertwine to present a serene and elegant harmony, revealing the continuous cycle of life. Li Feiwen levels various objects through her paintings, allowing people to recognize larger-scale interconnections without embedding past biases and denials. Her contemplation and realization of nature and the universe condense the vague existence stacked in memory into the indescribable "truth in perception." Viewing Li Feiwen's work evokes sincere emotions, as if the actual realm of life existing in the distance is portrayed.
In "Gently . Tenderly," the reconsideration of "sensation, nature, landscape, and abstraction" delves into the profound realms of the artist's life—a difficult-to-express state, perhaps slow, perhaps gentle, concealing strong flows and graceful spontaneity within. The exhibition focuses on shaping these feeling clusters, becoming an embodiment of contemporary abstract spiritual landscapes. It goes beyond memory stacking, condensing consciousness—a state of elevation detached from the body, interweaving visual perception and artistic beliefs. Temporarily fading attention from the visible reality, it attempts to move beyond the inherent representations of things, facing the unsettling world on this side with a warm and composed attitude. In this firm and gentle stance, Li Feiwen actively embraces all that is unknown.
The mission of art is not only to make universal aspects visible in everyday things but also to liberate the universal from the confines of the mundane.
